Care after decorating

A finish needs the right care after application. Keep its product details and follow the instructions for the particular surface.

Allow the finish to settle

Confirm the manufacturer’s drying and curing guidance before cleaning, moving furniture against a wall or putting painted doors and cupboards back into normal use. Requirements vary by product and conditions.

Retain a record of the product range, colour, sheen and areas where it was applied. This is useful when discussing maintenance or later decoration.

Cleaning and small marks

Follow the product guidance for cleaning and test a suitable method in an inconspicuous area where advised. Abrasive cleaning can change the appearance of a painted surface.

Before attempting a touch-up, check the original product and colour. The age of the finish, application method and light can affect how a repair appears.

Raise a concern clearly

Send a photograph showing the whole area and a close view of the issue. Include when it appeared, the location and any relevant change in conditions.

The agreed project documents set out the terms that apply to the work. Contact us to discuss a specific question.
