How quotations work

A useful price is tied to a defined scope. Room size is only one part of a decorating quotation.

What affects the scope

The condition of the surface, amount of detail and level of access all matter. A room with sound walls and simple woodwork requires a different brief from one with loose coatings, cornices and tall windows.

Photographs and a list of surfaces help establish what needs closer inspection. Any unresolved condition should be identified as an assumption or separate item.

What to look for in the quotation

  • The rooms, elevations and individual surfaces included.
  • Preparation and repairs, with any further investigation identified.
  • The proposed products, colours, sheen levels and application requirements.
  • Protection, access, waste arrangements and the working sequence.
  • The pricing basis, applicable tax, payment arrangements and exclusions.
  • How changes and additional work will be agreed.

Discuss dates alongside the specification

Tell us about any deadlines and whether the property will be occupied. Dates depend on the agreed work and practical arrangements, including access and the selected products.

A web page or enquiry does not reserve a start date. Confirm the scope, price and arrangements in writing before work is agreed.

Tell us what needs decorating.

Share the rooms, surface condition and full postcode. Photographs and a short description help us understand the work before discussing a quotation.
