Cabinet & joinery painting
Painted cupboards, shelving and fitted joinery need close attention at edges, joints and moving parts. Suitability comes before colour selection.
Assess what is already there
Photographs of the fronts, edges and hinges are useful, together with any details of the material or previous coating. Existing damage and adhesion need to be considered before agreeing a paint system.
The brief should distinguish a decorative refresh from repairs or replacement. Painting does not correct a poorly fitting door or a damaged cabinet carcass.
Specify the parts and finish
- Count doors, drawer fronts and fixed panels.
- State whether shelves, interiors, plinths and end panels are included.
- Agree removal, labelling and refitting arrangements where required.
- Use a sample to agree colour, sheen and the appearance of the finish.
Allow for use after painting
Drying and curing requirements depend on the selected product. Confirm when doors and drawers can be handled and cleaned, and retain the product information for future care.
Spray application and brush application are different options. The appropriate method depends on the substrate, access and finish specified.
